Kidney Disease
We Offer Various Surgical Options for Your Kidney Problems
Whether you suffer from painful kidney stones or irreparable damage from infection or cysts, we have surgical treatments to help you
If your kidney has a cancerous (malignant) tumor or has been irreparably damaged by infection, cysts or obstruction of urine outflow, you might be a candidate for one of these surgical procedures:
Surgical removal of a kidney (nephrectomy) sometimes with the attached adrenal gland and nearby lymph nodes (radical nephrectomy).
Removing only cancerous tissue or just part of the kidney (partial nephrectomy) if the tumor is small and confined to the very top or bottom of the kidney.
Minimally invasive kidney removal (laparoscopic nephrectomy) involves a few tiny incisions and miniaturized surgical tools guided by a lighted viewing.
Kidney stones form when calcium or other minerals that usually dissolve in urine become so concentrated they crystallize and stick together. There are several treatment options available to you.
Sound waves are applied outside the skin (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy) to break a kidney stone into small pieces that can easily pass through the bladder.
Sound waves are delivered through a small incision (percutaneous nephrolithotripsy) in the back to break up the stones, which are then removed or broken into tiny pieces.
A thin viewing instrument is passed through the urethra into the bladder and then into the ureter to the location of the kidney stone (uteroscopy), which is then removed or broken into tiny fragments.
Though rare today, surgery may be necessary for large stones (open stone surgery) caused by an infection, an abnormality in the urinary system or if other treatments fail.
